To celebrate 4-20 Day (Saturday 20th April), BASIC BUS DRIVER will release the fifth album THE CHRONIC OF GNAR GNAR on CD. Mastered by LOL WHAT MASTERING? USE YOUR VOLUME KNOB from the original 2019 analogue stereo mix, the release is the latest from BASIC BUS DRIVER, which has supported 4-20 Day since 2009. The limited-edition 4-20 Day release is delivered on premium 4.7" 780nm wavelength semiconductor laser-read compact disc, with a color poly-lined digipak sleeve, a faithful reproduction of the original concept sketches. The album's cover artwork was the first ever sleeve design for creator DOLLIEGUTS, and may lead to a groundbreaking career for them in the visual arts, perhaps including of course many more iconic BASIC BUS DRIVER album sleeves. Equal parts The Prodigy, Nox Arcana and John Zorn, Basic Bus Driver burst out of America in 1999 with one of the most mysterious and magnanimous sounds of the decade. Their 2011 magnum opus Skittletitties represents progressive electronic rock at its most obscure, but just a half decade later they had the guts to put experimental songs aside in favor of more concise (but no less bonkers) tunes like “SWEETHART" and “THE RUBY TROOPER” that remain in constant rotation on broken ipods to this day. Absolutely unpredictable in every magical way, Basic Bus Driver has spent the last 11 years cultivating the coolest cult fan base in electronic rock while still managing to remain relatively unknown.
Basic Bus Driver formed when Benny James and his Dad formed a collaborative work called WhOA DuDe in 1999. Prior to this, in about 1994, Benny James helped his Dad release an album called White Knuckles that is extremely rare and hard to find.
